How does Shopify Market Pricing work?

Shopify markets allow merchants to charge different prices for products depending on the customer’s country.

Markets may consist of one country or multiple countries (and on Shopify Plus a market can even be a Company Location for B2B pricing)

If a store has Shopify markets enabled, the price that a customer sees on the online website depends on factors outlined below.

First of all, Shopify will determine the market that a customer belongs to. Usually this is done automatically based on the customer location.

Once the market is known, the price will be determined based on the catalogs that are associated with the market.

The catalog will control the price of a product in two ways:
1. There is an overall “Price adjustment” which takes the base prices and increases or decreases that price by a percentage. This is called a “relative price”.
2. You can apply a “fixed price” to a product from the catalog. This will overwrite the base price and relative price for customers in the target market.

Example of catalog with a fixed price

In the example show above, “The 3p Fulfilled Snowboard” has a fixed price and compare-at-price. This means that customers in Canada will see a price of 80 CAD (even after the base prices is updated from the product page) until the fixed price is reset.

How does NA Bulk Price Editor change market prices?

NA Bulk Price Editor can optionally change market prices by enabling the “Select Shopify markets to apply price changes to” checkbox. After enabling the checkbox, you can select the markets that should have their prices changed. The app will apply fixed prices to the markets selected, and will reverse the changes when the price change job is reverted.

These settings will apply fixed prices to the Canada and United States market catalogs, and will not edit the fixed prices

If you are not familiar with Shopify markets or do not require country specific prices, you may prefer to leave “Select Shopify markets to apply price changes to” unchecked 🙂
